Space Quest II is the second game in Sierra’s Space Quest series. Like its predecessor, it is a science fiction comedy developed with Sierra’s Adventure Game Interpreter (AGI) engine. Gameplay remains the same as the previous game; players can guide their character (Roger Wilco) around the screen using the joystick or keyboard. Interaction with the game is also performed by typing short commands to pick up or use objects, perform actions, talk to characters, and solve puzzles. Like other games in the series, there are many dangers that can kill Roger. Some parts of the game require players to react quickly, in other areas players need to avoid performing certain actions or dangerous parts of the screen. Gameplay can be saved allowing players to continue playing at a later time or to retry part of the game after being killed.

The Story

Space Quest II picks up where the first game left off. After the game’s hero, Roger Wilco, successfully stopped the Sariens from stealing the Star Generator he is eventually transferred to Xenon Orbital Station 4 where he resumes his duties as janitor. As the game opens, Roger is captured by Sludge Vohaul. Vohaul is the mastermind behind the Sariens plan to capture the Star Generator and is not happy about Roger’s interference. He sends Roger to the Labion labour mines as punishment while he begins his new plan to unleash genetically engineered door-to-door life insurance salesmen to take over the planet Xenon. Along the way to the mines, the shuttle crashes and Roger is able to escape. The planet Labion is very jungle-like with numerous dangers Roger needs to avoid. Once Roger escapes the jungle, he steals a shuttle to return to Vohaul’s fortress to destroy him.
