IBM PC version of Jeopardy!
IBM PC version of Jeopardy!

Jeopardy! is a game based on the popular t.v. quiz show of the same name. Released by Sharedata in 1987, versions were available for for the Apple II, Commodore 64, and IBM PC. As on the t.v. show, 3 players compete to earn the most money by correctly providing a question for the given answers across a variety of categories.

Gameplay

The computerized version of Jeopardy! follows the same format as the show. The game starts with players choosing from one of the many male or female characters available; it's also possible to have some players controlled by the computer. There are then two rounds of gameplay followed by the Final Jeopardy round. The board displays six categories with various dollar values; players select a category and value and an answer is revealed. The first player to provide the correct question for the answer has the indicated dollar amount added to their score. In the first round there is a hidden Daily Double, and in the second round there are two Daily Doubles; if one of these is found, the player who located it is able to wager up to the amount of money they have which will be earned for a correct response. The Final Jeopardy answer at the end of the game is responded to by all three players with 30 seconds allotted to form a response. At the end of the three rounds the player with the most money wins. The game provides the option to save results to a high score table and to allow players to re-use their characters to keep track of wins and losses.
