Trapfall, also known as Cuthbert in the Jungle, is an action game released for the Commodore 64, Dragon 32/64, and TRS-80 Color Computer. It is a clone of Activision's Pitfall! and the gameplay is virtually identical. As in Pitfall!, players have the goal of exploring a dangerous jungle consisting of 120 different screens in order to locate all of the treasures within the given time limit.

Gameplay

The game features a side view of the 120 screen jungle; players control the game's hero (usually referred to as Cuthbert) who can run left and right, jump, and climb. Each screen has one or more hazards that need to be avoided. There are ponds, bottomless pits, snakes, scorpions, aligators, rolling barrels, and more. Some of the ponds disappear and reappear suddenly, while other are always present; in many cases, there is a vine swinging back and forth which players can use to swing over hazards Tarzan-style. On some screens, however, there is no rope and a pond is in the way. In this case, there will be three aligators in the pond which repeatedly open and close their mouth. Players can jump on the aligators, but can only do so safely if either the aligator's mouth is closed or when standing on the aligators eyes. Contact with most of the hazards will cost a life; the one exception is the rolling barrels. The barrels, instead, will cause the player to trip and will take away some points. The jungle consists of two levels, one underground and the other above ground. The underground level doesn't have any of the treasures, however it does allow players to navigate the jungle quicker; each underground screen traversed is equivalent to three above ground screens which may be useful to explore the entire jungle in the time limit. The scorpions are found only underground as well and constantly follow the player; they can be jumped over, but it takes careful timing. Players begin the game with 2000 points; additional points are awarded for each treasure collected, however points are lost for being hit by the barrels or falling into a pit. The game begins with three lives, and the game ends either when all lives have been lost or the 20 minute time limit is reached.
