Atari 7800 POKEY Chip is part of the category Audio Features.

The Atari 7800 was designed with limited sound hardware but with the ability for game cartridges to include more advanced sound chips. Due to cost cutting measures, the majority of Atari 7800 games did not take advantage of this feature; some games did include an Atari POKEY (Pot Keyboard Integrated Circuit) chip for enchanced sounds and music. This chip was previously utilized in Atari 8-bit computers and numerous arcade games and offered better quality sound than the built in sounds of the Atari 7800 (which were identical to the Atari 2600 for backwards compatibility).
