MSound is part of the category Sound Hardware Supported.
MSound is a sound device by MSound International that connected to the parallel printer port of PC and compatible computers. It was capable of playing digitized sounds in stereo with up to a 48KHz sampling rate. Unlike many similar devices such as Covox Speech Thing which only contained a simple DAC, the MSound also included a DSP chip based on the Texas Instruments TMS320 to offer increased sound quality and features. MSound shipped with a pair of headphones and a utility disk that utilized its DSP chip to emulate several common audio standards of the time such as the Adlib card and the Covox Speech Thing (although the emulation wasn't perfect and didn't work with all games).
