PSG is part of the category Sound Hardware Supported.
The standard MSX sound generation capability is the PSG (Programmable Sound Generator). Like many aspects of the MSX system, this chip was a standard off-the-shelf part, in this case the popular General Instrument AY-3-8910 or one of many clones and variations. The chip provided 3 channels of sound with each channel capable of playing a tone or noise. This chip was commonly used in the era and was also utilized by other home computers (including the Amstrad CPC, TRS-80 Color Computer, and later ZX Spectrum models) as well as numerous arcade games.
Some models of the Fujitsu FM-7 series (including the FM-7, FM-NEW7, and others) also included the General Instrument AY-3-8910 for sounds.
