Overview

VIC Avenger for the Commodore VIC-20
VIC Avenger for the Commodore VIC-20
VIC Avenger is a version of Space Invaders for the Commodore VIC-20. The gameplay remains the same as in Space Invaders; the goal is to defend the Earth from attacking aliens. The aliens are arranged in 5 rows and start at the top of the screen; they march horizontally and when the edge of the screen is reached drop down a level and reverse direction. Players control a laser cannon which moves along the bottom of the screen and need to shoot all of the aliens before they reach the ground. The aliens aren't completely defenseless and are constantly dropping bombs which the player needs to dodge. To help out, there are four shields just above the laser cannon which the player can hide behind. The shields aren't immune to fire, and each time the player or an alien hits one a small part is eliminated. From time to time a flying saucer appears and crosses the screen along the top; the saucer doesn't attack, but can be shot to earn bonus points. The game ends when either an aliens lands on the ground or all of the player's laser cannons are destroyed. Points are earned in the game for shooting aliens and the flying saucer.
